KU football lands commitment from New Jersey defensive end

— Kansas football coach Charlie Weis picked up the eighth commitment of the Jayhawks’ 2014 class, adding defensive end Austin Stevens on Thursday, according to

Stevens, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive end from Montclair (N.J.) High School, is rated as a two-star recruit by Rivals. He also held offers from Boston College, Temple and Rutgers.

Kansas is also recruiting Stevens’ high school teammate, three-star defensive end Darius Slade, according to Rivals.

Stevens is the fourth defensive player to join KU’s recruiting class; Weis previously picked up commitments from SM West defensive back Andre Maloney, Lawrence Free State safety Joe Dineen and East St. Louis (Ill.) linebacker Kyron Watson.
