Chastain says wealthy should pay for medical research while taxpayers pay for light rail

The half-cent sales tax for Jackson County medical research has apparently picked up another opponent.

Clay Chastain.

“Though 5 percent of America’s population holds 93 percent of the nation’s bounty, this does not stop the well off in Kansas City from asking the overburdened, money-strapped, lowly taxpayer to fund their big speculative medical research plan,” he writes today. “I challenge the rectitude of their motives.”

Besides, those overburdened, money-strapped, lowly taxpayers need to spend their money on something else.

Light rail.

“The wealthy should fund the medical research, and the taxpayers a new modern transit system,” he said.
