Both area governors will be in the Kansas City area around lunchtime today.

Gov. Sam Brownback of Kansas will take part in a discussion of judicial appointments sponsored by the Federalist Society. It’ll take place at the Overland Park Sheraton on College Boulevard.

Kansas recently changed the way appeals court judges are picked. There’s some talk of extending that change to state Supreme Court judges, which would give the governor a bigger role in making picks for the bench.

At roughly the same time, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon speaks at the Council of State Governments meeting at the Kauffman Foundation. He’ll talk about entrepreneurship.

As you may know, Barack Obama is here on Friday.
