The new Tigers golf facility, which will host a 2014 NCAA men’s golf regional May 15-17, houses two indoor hitting bays, team locker rooms and lounges, coaches offices and a swing pattern analysis video station.
The Walsworth Family Golf Center also includes a private driving range for the Missouri golf program, including a private putting green and chipping area.
Missouri athletic director Mike Alden, the Walsworth family and representatives of the Tigers’ golf programs will be on hand for the unveiling.
“The Walsworth Family has been tremendously supportive of the University of Missouri,” Alden said in a release from Missouri Athletics. “The September 28 unveiling of the Walsworth Family Golf Center will give our golf programs one of the finest training facilities in the country.
“On behalf of everyone at Mizzou, we want to thank Don, Audrey and their family, and welcome Tiger fans out to Old Hawthorne to view this fabulous new facility.”
Tiger Scholarship Fund members and fans are encouraged to arrive by 8 a.m. for an opportunity to meet the 2013-14 Missouri golf teams.
The Missouri men’s golf team — which is led by junior Ryan Zech, a Kearney native — won a regional preview event Tuesday at The Club at Old Hawthorne, finishing at 12-under par overall and nipping runner-up Iowa State by five shots.
The field also included Kansas State, Mississippi and Nebraska among others.
The Tigers opened the season by winning the Turning State Tiger Intercollegiate tournament Sept. 1-2 at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y.
Missouri’s women’s golf team opened the season by placing 15th out of 20 teams during the 11th Annual Cougar Classic, which wrapped up Sept. 10 in Charleston, S.C.
Junior Taylor Gohn (Columbus, Ind.) was the Tigers’ top finisher, placing 26th overall with a 3-over par 219.
