Tyler Lee Ford, 21, was arrested about 2 a.m. Sunday on suspicion of aggravated burglary and three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, police reports indicate.
He is suspected of breaking into a home and groping three girls, two 9-year-olds and one 10-year-old whom he did not know, according to police.
“The father of the girls chased him after he heard him” in the girls’ bedroom, said Hutchinson Police Lt. John Moore. Police officers then found Ford walking in the area.
Although Ford’s address on West Avenue B is just blocks away from where he was arrested, police say he left a key piece of evidence behind.
“He was not the brightest, in that he left his phone in the home,” Moore said, noting the cellphone was found in the girls’ bedroom. “It’s going to be pretty difficult to explain how his phone got in the house.
“It was good work on the part of officers for catching him in the area.”
Moore acknowledged such a crime is unusual in Hutchinson. Information on whether or not the suspect was intoxicated was not immediately available. Ford is being held in the Reno County jail on $85,000 bond.
