Speed a likely factor in Independence wreck, police say

Updated: 2013-09-09T22:36:08Z

Independence police have identified a 25-year-old woman killed in a one-vehicle traffic crash early Saturday as Ashly R. Young.

The crash occurred about 2:50 a.m. at Arlington Avenue and U.S. 24, according to police. Young, an Independence resident, was driving the vehicle. The passenger, identified as 18-year-old Randy A. Alexander-Leslie of Riverside, was taken to Centerpoint Medical Center and was listed Monday in critical condition.

Police said excessive speed appeared to be a factor and are continuing their investigation.
