People in Kansas City must have thought over the weekend that they had been transported to another town far, far away. The professional teams here actually were winners this past weekend.

What a radical change. The Kansas City Chiefs stomped the Jacksonville Jaguars 28-2 in a televised season opener Sunday.

The game would have only been better for Kansas City Chiefs fans if it were played at Arrowhead stadium. Nevertheless, elated fans drove around town after the game was over with their Chiefs flags flapping from their cars, vans, pickup trucks and SUVs.

The Kansas City Royals were winners, too, beating the Detroit Tigers 5-2 at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals even have a chance to qualify for long-overdue postseason games.
