Two people at the studio apartment at 3136 Grand Boulevard called police about 9:15 p.m. after they noticed their friend was dead. Officers found the victim on a mattress that pulled out from the wall. He appeared to be sleeping, police said, and there were no signs of foul play. Police believe he may have suffered a drug overdose, but an autopsy will determine the cause of death.
While at the scene, five officers complained of a possible chemical reaction to fumes coming from a meth lab set up in the bathroom. The officers were treated and released.
Special methamphetamine investigators dismantled the lab and removed the hazardous chemicals. Police detained the two people at the apartment for questioning.
