CARTHAGE, Mo. — Hundreds of people attended a fundraiser to honor a 12-year-old Missouri girl who was killed and help her family.
The daylong benefit Sunday in Carthage was organized by a couple who didn’t know the family of Adriaunna Horton. The money raised will help with funeral expenses for the girl, whose body was found Aug. 21, two days after she was reportedly kidnapped in Golden City.
The Joplin Globe reports the benefit’s proceeds will also pay for a trust fund for Adriaunna’s three younger sisters.
Brandy Son and Chris Goodwin, who organized the fundraiser, say Carthage-area businesses and residents donated everything for the event.
Audrianna’s father, James Horton, said he couldn’t express how grateful he was for the benefit.
Bobby Bourne Jr., of Lockwood, is charged in the girl’s death.
The girl’s mother, Wendi Jackson, lives in Overland Park.
