The first assault was reported about 1:30 a.m. Friday in the 600 block of East Linwood Boulevard. A 52-year-old woman whose car had run out of gas had walked to a service station on Linwood to fill a gas can, according to police reports.
When she got back to her car in the 3200 block of Holmes Road, a man climbed into the car with her, she later told police.
The woman told police that the man sexually assaulted her inside her car and stole money from her wallet before fleeing. A witness told police that he had seen a man following the woman as she left the gas station.
A short time later, the witness saw the man return to the station and buy something,
Police saw the man nearby. When they approached him, he asked officers, “Is this about that girl down there, because she came on to me first,” according to police reports.
Officers arrested him.
The second incident allegedly occurred about 3:30 a.m. at Blue Valley Park near 23rd Street and Wheeling Avenue. Police officers on patrol saw a crying woman walking down the middle of the street nearby.
She told them she had been waiting at a bus stop near 31st Street and Van Brunt Boulevard when she accepted a ride from a man who then told her he wanted to have sex with her. The woman said no and asked him to drive her to a hotel so she could rent a room.
Instead, he drove her to the park, where she was raped and sodomized, she said. Afterward, she broke free and ran away.
She was taken to a hospital.
