Fairfax, Platte Purchase bridges over the Missouri River to close this weekend

Updated: 2013-09-06T13:32:25Z

Drivers who use the Fairfax Bridge and Platte Purchase bridges on U.S. 69 to go between Wyandotte County and the Northland will have to find a new route this weekend.

The bridges over the Missouri River will be closed from 5 a.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday so Missouri highway officials can do survey and utility work.

Traffic will be rerouted to Interstate 635 and Kansas 5.

A public hearing on a new location for the bridges is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Riverside Community Center, 4498 N.W. High Drive. The public may view exhibits, make comments and ask questions.

Comments also may be made online until Oct. 1.

More information about the bridge replacement project can be found at MoDOT’s U.S. 69 Bridges Over the Missouri River online page.

The route is popular among commuters going between the Northland and Wyandotte County. About 13,000 vehicles use the bridges each day.
