MIAA football season kicks off Thursday

The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association football season kicks off Thursday with six games, including two involving the favorites to win the conference title.

Northwest Missouri State plays host to Saginaw Valley State in a non-league game, and defending champion Missouri Western jumps into league play with a trip to Central Missouri.

In other openers Thursday: Central Oklahoma travels to Missouri Southern, Washburn is at Nebraska-Kearney, Emporia State goes to Fort Hays State, and Lincoln travels to Lindenwood.

On Saturday, Northeastern State visits Pittsburg State and Southern Baptist goes to Truman.
