While income tax collections in Kansas slumped in August, they grew slightly in Missouri, according to figures released Wednesday.

Missouri budget director Linda Luebbering says income tax collections jumped 4.6 percent in the month, year-over-year, compared with the 17 percent slump in income tax revenue in Kansas in August 2013, compared with August 2012.

Overall Missouri revenue rose 2.2 percent after refunds. In Kansas, the August numbers reflected a 9.4 percent dip in overall revenues.

In a week Missouri lawmakers will debate a tax cut measure designed to help the state compete with the lower Kansas tax rates.
