The latest edition of the Missouri media poll ranks Blue Springs first in Class 6 and Lee's Summit West first in Class 5. For what it's worth, I have them both slotted the same.

In The Star's big class preseason poll, released in Friday's paper, we ranked Lee's Summit West first and Blue Springs second — and that's how I see them, too, even though it was the Wildcats, not Lee's Summit West, that won a state championship in 2012.

Not that it matters. That debate will work itself out on the field when the two teams meet Sept. 20 at Lee's Summit West.

Here are the aforementioned media rankings:

Class 6

1. Blue Springs, 2. Rock Bridge, 3. Francis Howell, 4. Rockhurst, 5. Hazelwood Central

Class 5

1. Lee's Summit West, 2. Parkway Central, 3. Fort Osage, 4. Kirkwood, 5. Camdenton

Class 4

1. Webb City, 2. Harrisonville, 3. Helias Catholic, 4. Bolivar, 5. Westminster

Class 3

1. Maryville, 2. John Burroughs, 3. California, 4. Oak Grove, 5. Duchesne

Class 2

1. Lamar, 2. Mountain View, 3. Mountain Grove, 4. South Callaway, 5. Herculaneum

Class 1

1. Penney, 2. Valle Catholic, 3. Westran, 4. Thayer, 5. Midway
