A trip to the courthouse to support a family friend turned into a trip to the jailhouse for a Leavenworth woman.

During a break in a friend’s trial earlier this year in Leavenworth County District Court, the woman swiped the defense lawyer’s wallet from a briefcase and went on a brief spending spree before the theft was discovered.
The lawyer initially thought he had misplaced the wallet, but it didn’t take police long to piece together what had actually happened.
A security camera in the courtroom captured the theft. Other cameras captured images of the woman making purchases with a pilfered credit card.
In July, 51-year-old Theresa Quest pleaded no contest and was found guilty of theft and criminal use of a credit card. On Wednesday, a judge sentenced her to two days in jail as a condition of probation.
