Updated: 2013-08-27T03:25:00Z

Cy Rudnick, who sold fine silks, cottons, linens and wools at his Crown Center fabric store that was known throughout the region, has died.

Seymour Rudnick, known by most as Cy, passed away suddenly Friday. He was 77.

Rudnick was the owner, along with his wife, Esther, of Cy Rudnick’s Fabrics for 30 years.

The Philadelphia native started in the business while in high school, doing stock work at a wholesale fabric company owned by a friend’s family. He later attended the Philadelphia Textile Institute and then became a buyer for a chain of 25 fabric stores in Milwaukee.

After moving to Kansas City and becoming a partner in another fabric store, he left to open Cy Rudnick’s Fabrics in Crown Center in September 1976. Their store closed in 2006.
