Store closed by health officials because of rats

Updated: 2013-08-24T00:20:58Z

The Family Dollar store at 1201 E. Meyer Blvd. was ordered closed by health officials Thursday after evidence of a rat infestation was found during a third re-inspection.

An inspector found rat hair, urine and feces on merchandise shelves throughout the store. Food, soap and pet food packages were chewed open, according to the Health Department. It was the third time the store had been inspected with no improvement, the department said.

The store will not be allowed to reopen until management can demonstrate that effective pest control measures are in place.
