KC man dead from early Thursday morning crash

A passenger in a car that struck a telephone pole and rolled early Thursday morning later died of his injuries.

Kansas City police identified the man as 40-year-old Cranston T. Gunnels of Kansas City.

The accident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. at 39th Street and Cleveland Avenue. Police said the vehicle was northbound on Cleveland when the driver lost control. Gunnels, who was pinned beneath the vehicle, was taken to a hospital where he died. The driver and another passenger refused treatment.

The crash is under investigation.
