The 127-room Hyatt Place hotel and 14,000-square-foot conference center are being developed by RHW Management Inc. of Overland Park. Construction is expected to begin next summer, with completion in 2015.
“We want this development to be a real trophy for the citizens of Lenexa, something that will make them proud,” said Richard Wiens, RHW’s president. “After 30 years of developing hotels, we are excited to have this one in our backyard.”
The council approved an incentive package for the project that included $11 million in tax increment financing. Half the amount will reimburse the city for the 5.5 acres of land required for the hotel development.
Also approved by the council was a planned upscale restaurant to be developed next to the hotel by DJE CCE, a partnership affiliated with Dennis J. Eskie & Associates and Renaissance Infrastructure Consulting.
The Lenexa City Center is a retail, office and residential project being developed at 87th Street Parkway and Renner Boulevard. Another big project, a new 240,000-square-foot headquarters for Perceptive Software, also is going up there. Perceptive plans to move its 700-employee operation from Shawnee into the new building next spring.
