Johnson County prosecutors have accused a 51-year-old woman of trying to kill her husband, who was severely beaten at his Shawnee home in June.

Denise Daleen Davey is charged with attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. She was arrested Monday and is being held with bond set at $1 million.

Three other defendants previously were charged in the attack on Dennis Davey, who was struck repeatedly on the head with a blunt object in his home in the 5400 block of Flint Street, according to court documents. Denise Davey allegedly provided money to one of those defendants.

Also charged with attempted first-degree murder are Denise Davey’s daughter, Nicole Rose Carter, and two Kansas City residents, Adam Ryan Hersh and Whitney T. Hersh.

About a week after being attacked, Dennis Davey obtained a protection from abuse court order against his wife.

According to his request for that order filed in Johnson County District Court, he had confronted his wife and stepdaughter, Carter, about money that had been taken from his bank account. He demanded that Carter move out, according to his petition.

That ultimatum occurred shortly before he was attacked, according to the court documents.

About a month after he was attacked, Dennis Davey filed for divorce. Jill Kenney, his attorney in the divorce case, said Monday that the family did not want to comment.
