FC Kansas City midfielder Lauren Holiday earned the inaugural Golden Boot for the National Women's Soccer League, an award reserved for the player with the most goals in the league.

Holiday scored 12 goals for FC Kansas City this season, accomplishing the feat in only 18 games. She also led the NWSL with nine assists.

The most productive month of Holiday's season came in June, when she scored six goals before being selected the NWSL Player of the Month.

Holiday scored against all seven opponents this season, the only player in the league to achieve that feat.

FC Kansas City will play host to Portland FC at 1 p.m. Saturday in the NWSL semifinals at Shawnee Mission North District Stadium. The winner will meet the victor of Western New York and Sky Blue (New Jersey) in the championship match on Aug. 31.

Here is the 2013 NWSL Awards schedule for the upcoming week:

Tuesday: Rookie of the Year

Wednesday: Goalkeeper of the Year

Thursday: Defender of the Year

Aug. 26: Coach of the Year

Aug. 27: Most Valuable Player
