Kansas City mayor is hosting a free block party Saturday at Union Station

Once again, Mayor Sly James of Kansas City is hosting a block party for families and youths to mark the end of summer vacation.

The second “Sly’s Rock the Block” will take place from 4 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Union Station. Both the event and parking at the station garage are free to the public.

Family-friendly activities will run until 8 p.m., with free food from 5 until 7 p.m. for the first 2,000 in the chow line. Special guest The Sequel, featuring members from national recording artist Lo-Key, will perform. Also, NBA player and coach Sam Cassell will sign autographs and pose for photos.

At 8 p.m., DJ Fresh will provide entertainment for the final night of Club KC, aimed at middle and high school students.

The event is being paid for with $20,000 in city funds and $30,000 in donations.
