Suspicious package reported on unoccupied bus in Jackson County

Updated: 2013-08-16T20:02:56Z

Jackson County authorities are investigating a suspicious package found earlier Friday on an unoccupied bus in Blue Summit.

The incident was reported just after 10:30 a.m. when a worker with First Transit spotted the package inside the bus, which was parked just east of Truman Road and Interstate 435, and called police.

No injuries have been reported and authorities have summoned the Independence police bomb unit, said Sgt. Ronda Montgomery, spokeswoman for the Jackson County sheriff’s office.

No details have immediately emerged on who placed the package on the bus or what was inside. Authorities have issued a no-fly zone over the area.
