The 74-year-old driver who caused a wreck at a day care center in July probably stomped his accelerator instead of his brake after hitting a parked car, according to new details from police reports released Thursday.

His Range Rover shoved a parked Cadillac into a wooden utility pole and through the wall of the Christian Academy Child Care center at 3611 E. 27th St., injuring three children who had been napping.
The Cadillac ended up almost completely inside the destroyed building. The wreck also sheared off the pole, causing live electrical lines to hit the sidewalk, police said.
Police reports from the July 30 wreck revealed that the Range Rover driver told police a maroon car pulled out in front of him and hit his Range Rover, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which hit the parked Cadillac. But the Range Rover bore no evidence of a crash with a car other than the Cadillac, investigators said.
Investigators concluded that the primary factor in the wreck was “created by the driver of the Range Rover failing to give his full time and attention to the safe operation” of his vehicle and by not recognizing that the Cadillac was parked in the outside travel lane of 27th Street.
