Although two men exchanged gunfire at a gas station Sunday night, a man whose body was found behind the gas station Monday likely was killed in a different volley of gunfire, police said Tuesday.
Police received at least three different “shots fired” calls in the area of 59th Street and Swope Parkway starting at 7 p.m. Sunday and ending about 1:15 a.m. Monday. Investigators think Manuel E. Lars, 32, was killed about midnight during an altercation outside of the gas station, where Lars had been hanging out and smoking cigarettes.
Lars collapsed behind the gas station in a small wooded area against a residential fence. The resident reported finding his body about 12:35 p.m. Monday. Lars lived in the neighborhood, police said. Detectives did not release any motive or suspect information.
