Left short at tackle because of injuries, the Chiefs added another body at the position by signing Hutch Eckerson.

Eckerson, 6 feet 6 and 310 pounds, has been to training camp in recent years with San Diego, New Orleans and Buffalo. He played in college at South Carolina.

The Chiefs waived tackle Dustin Waldron to make roster room for Eckerson. Waldron injured his knee in practice this week.

Before signing Eckerson, the Chiefs had four healthy offensive tackles: starters Branden Albert and Eric Fisher and backups Geoff Schwartz and Steven Baker. The leading reserve at tackle, Donald Stephenson, has a broken finger and will not play in Friday night’s preseason opener at New Orleans.
