— The Big 12 announced its men’s basketball schedule for the 2013-14 season Thursday morning.

A few quick thoughts: K-State fans will have to get used to the Big 12 Network and afternoon games. The Wildcats will play eight conference games between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. They will also play on syndicated television eight times.

The schedule starts off hard with games against league favorites Oklahoma State and Kansas right off the bat, but easier games against TCU, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Texas will allow K-State to stay above .500 early on even if it loses to the Cowboys and Jayhawks.

K-State’s bye during the conference schedule comes at a good time, before taking on Texas and Kansas at Bramlage Coliseum in a Saturday/Monday turnaround. The more difficult turnaround will come in early March, when the Wildcats have to play Iowa State and Oklahoma State back-to-back.

I am surprised K-State’s February trip to Texas Tech will be televised on ESPN2, while K-State’s season-finale against Baylor is on the Big 12 Network. But the Big 12 likes to hold some of its better games back on its own network. Perhaps that explains that decision.
