Maxwell F. Blanchard Jr., 41, was charged Tuesday with first-degree child molestation. On Wednesday, prosecutors filed an amended complaint charging him with second-degree statutory sodomy.
According to court records, police were called after the girls mother discovered sexually explicit text messages.
The girl later confirmed to police that the messages were between her and Blanchard and that he had inappropriately touched her, according to the allegations.
Blanchard was arrested Monday by Belton police, who identified him as a sheriffs deputy at the time of the crimes. His employment was terminated Monday, sheriffs office officials said.
Because of Blanchards law enforcement position, the office of Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker has been appointed as special prosecutor in the case.
