Every tour of Boulevard Brewing Company ends in the tasting room, a pub-style space with vintage brewing memorabilia and a window overlooking stainless steel brewing tanks.

Boulevard staffers man the taps behind the bar, pouring samples of the company’s latest brewing experiments. Sometimes, the tasting room beers graduate to liquor store shelves: Before it became one of Boulevard’s year-round beers, 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat was on tap in the tasting room.
Many of those beers stall out in the experimental phase and don’t make it out of the brewery. Kind of like Willy Wonka’s Everlasting Gobstoppers.
Starting this month, some of Boulevard’s tasting room beers will be sold outside of the brewery. Boulevard’s new Sample Twelve packs will feature three bottles each of two year-round beers (Unfiltered Wheat, 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat) as well as three bottles each of two recent tasting room beers: Westside Rye Ale and Mid-Coast I.P.A.
The former is a “spicy” yet “sessionable” beer. Sessionable beers are typically lower in alcohol, so you can drink more of them in a single drinking session. The latter, Mid-Coast I.P.A., is a super-hoppy beer that nods to strong West Coast I.P.A.s.
The beers sold in the Sample Twelve packs will rotate in early 2014. You can find the new variety packages at liquor stores that sell Boulevard’s 12-Pack Sampler variety packs, which eventually will be phased out.
In other Boulevard news, six-packs of the brewery’s new year-round beer, Pop-Up I.P.A., should start hitting shelves this week. Like Westside Rye Ale, Pop-Up I.P.A. is a sessionable beer, with 4.2 percent ABV (alcohol by volume).
