Kansas City police on Wednesday continued to investigate a wreck that heavily damaged a day care center and wounded three children.

Witnesses have provided conflicting accounts of what happened before the accident occurred about 1 p.m. Tuesday at Christian Academy Day Care at 3611 E. 27th St., investigators said.

An 80-year-old man driving a Range Rover struck the back of a parked car, shoving the car into a wooden power pole and through a wall into a room of napping children.

Two children were trapped temporarily under the car. A third child was also injured.

One child remained in a hospital overnight but was expected to be released Wednesday, police said.

The wreck ripped down some power lines that arced on the sidewalk in front of the building until crews shut off the power.

Police said they planned to finish their investigation before deciding what charges the driver could face. They took a blood sample from him as part of their routine investigation.
