National contestants: Students represented Missouri in the National Leadership and Skills Competition in Kansas City.
Marisol Rivas, a junior from Park Hill High School, was elected as the 2013-2014 Missouri SkillsUSA vice president.
In the competition, placing in the top 10 were Kayla Davis of Liberty High School in criminal justice, Ben Kubart of Liberty in major appliance repair technology and Zach Sinnett of Park Hill in job interview.
Teams of students who competed were Ryan Barkalow of Staley High School, John Hart of Liberty and Sierra McCollum of Staley on the human services team and on the chapter display team, Marisol Rivas of Park Hill, Madeline Sherman of Oak Park High School and Cody Young of Park Hill.
Career and technical education students from all over the country participated.
Kansas State University
Graduates: Northland students were awarded master’s and doctorate degrees during spring commencement ceremonies on the campus in Manhattan.
Awarded a doctorate were Anthony Goldsby in horticulture and Christine Reyes in curriculum and instruction, both from Kansas City, North.
Students earning master’s degrees were Kenra Winkler-Ebling of Gladstone in interior architecture and product design; Jessica Luczak in music and Jane Ridge in academic advising, both of Liberty; Rachel Barth of Parkville in landscape architecture; and Michael Stephen of Platte City in adult, occupational and continuing education.
From Kansas City, North, master’s degrees were awarded to Stephen Bader in operations research, Felicia Balestrere in interior architecture and product design, Margaret Bierschwal in interior architecture and product design, Katherine Connelly in architecture, Vaughn Kohler in English, LaTonya Stewart in adult, occupational and continuing education and Richard Stewart in adult, occupational and continuing education.
Academic accolades: Northland students were initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, a national all-discipline honor society.
New members include Katherine Connelly and Joyce McCawley, both graduate students from Kansas City, North, and Tyler Santoro, a junior from Parkville.
To be selected, juniors must rank in the top 7.5 percent of their class and graduate students, in the top 10 percent.
