Independence police say man stabbed to death

Updated: 2013-07-29T23:41:48Z

An Independence man died after returning to his home with a stab wound early Saturday.

Corey Laykovich, 22, died at a hospital.

Laykovich came to his home near Independence Center about 3 a.m. and went to his room, said his stepfather, Bob Norris. A family member heard strange breathing sounds and discovered Laykovich had been stabbed.

“We don’t know where he was or where he came from,” Norris said.

Police are investigating the case as a homicide. They are asking anyone with information about Laykovich’s actions Friday night or Saturday morning, or who may know anything about the stabbing, to call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).

The family has set up a fund to pay for Laykovich’s expenses at https://www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/cns2/donations-for-corey
