KCK fire official hurt in traffic crash

A Kansas City, Kan., fire department official was severely injured in an off-duty traffic crash over the weekend.

The assistant fire chief, whose name the department did not release, was hurt in a one-vehicle crash late Saturday night in the 2800 block of South 55th Street. He was the only occupant of the unmarked fire department vehicle, according to the department.

His current hospital condition was not available Monday.

The Kansas Highway Patrol and Kansas City, Kan., Police Department are investigating the crash.
