Belton police identify pedestrian killed crossing I-49

Belton police have identified the pedestrian killed early Saturday while crossing Interstate 49 as a California man, and they said the motorist who struck him was arrested for allegedly driving while his license was revoked.

Jeffrey A. Gaches, 44, of Lodi, Calif., is the pedestrian who was fatally struck about 12:20 a.m. near the intersection with Missouri 58.

Capt. Don Spears said the driver, a Sugar Creek man, is in custody at the Cass County Jail with bail set at $25,000.
