Two men, one using a baseball bat, ambushed a couple in their driveway early Friday after an altercation at a Kansas City nightclub.

The 44-year-old male victim suffered a large cut on the top of his head and one on his left forearm. His 30-year-old wife suffered a bloody nose along with several cuts on her face and arms in the attack in the 4100 block of East 9th Street.

The victims told police they were at the Aura nightclub at 39th and Main streets when a man started making “advances” toward the wife. The husband told the man to leave his wife alone and a fight broke out between the couple and two men. Off-duty officers kicked all four out of the club.

Several hours later, when the couple returned home about 3 a.m., they were ambushed. The husband said he got out of his car and was suddenly hit on the back of his head with a bat. He turned around and tried to stop the assailant, who continued to swing the bat at him. A second attacker repeatedly punched the wife in the face.

Both attackers then fled.
