Juvenile authorities on Friday accused a 16-year-old boy of shooting at a city bus in Kansas City on Thursday, causing minor injuries to three passengers.

The Jackson County juvenile officer charged the unnamed youth with first- and second-degree assault and armed criminal action. He remained at the juvenile jail Friday.

One victim was shot in the hand in the noon incident at 31st Street and Prospect Avenue. The two other victims were cut with broken glass.

Police reports say the youth had previously fought with the shooting victim. When their paths crossed on the bus Thursday, the youth allegedly said, “I got my boys with me. What you wanna do?”

The shooting victim reportedly replied that he didn’t care about the “boys” and that he could still beat him up. A fight erupted, and a group of people, including the youth, left the bus. That’s when the youth allegedly aimed his gun at the bus and fired at the victim. The youth and his friends then ran away.

Officers later arrested several suspects, including the juvenile. Police noted that the bus was nearly full, but the “other bus riders left the scene without cooperating.”
