Kansas City police are investigating after a man’s body was found Thursday afternoon near Missouri 210 and Searcy Creek Parkway.

The body had been at the scene for several days, police said, and probably is related to a wreck reported at the site Tuesday night.

The body does not belong to missing Liberty runner Chad Rogers, police said.

Police were called to the area about 3:30 p.m. Thursday after a motorist stopped on the westbound exit to Searcy Creek to check a shifting load in his semitruck, said Police Capt. Tye Grant. The driver smelled a bad odor and found the body in waist-high grass.

On Tuesday night, someone called 911 to report an injury wreck at the site. But when officers arrived, there was no vehicle at the scene. The officers did not have an exact location on the exit ramp and did not notice any indications that a wreck had occurred. They tried to reach the 911 caller for further information but could not, so they left, Grant said.

Accident investigators called to the scene Thursday found skid marks going off the road and a pole that had been knocked down. The man’s body was not far from the pole, police said.

The victim was wearing tennis shoes, but it was not clear whether he was a jogger. His name was not released.
