A Kansas City Water Services employee killed while repairing a sewer line was identified Utility Repair Supervisor Donald Fenton.

“Our deepest condolences to the family of Utility Repair Supervisor Donald Fenton who was tragically killed while repairing a sewer line,” Kansas City’s City Manager Troy Schulte said Monday on his KCMOManager account on Twitter.

Earlier Monday evening, Schulte tweeted: “A tragic accident today in south KC. One of our own was killed while fixing a sewer manhole. Unheralded, important and dangerous work.”

The incident occurred Monday evening behind the South Patrol police station at 9701 Marion Park Drive in south Kansas City.

The accident is being investigated. Fenton worked 14 years for water department, a spokeswoman said.

The department was preparing to issue a statement later this morning, but spokeswoman Jennifer Kincaid said there would be no comment on the cause of the accident until more details are known.
