Boulevard Brewing Co. is expanding its I.P.A. offerings with a new year-round addition to the core line.

On Monday, Pop-Up I.P.A. (an American India Pale Ale) joined its “bigger brothers” — Single-Wide and Double-Wide — in the company’s line of hop-centric beers. Boulevard describes the low-alcohol beer as: “built for frequent excursions, with a very drinkable character and relatively low bitterness tucked behind a big, fruity hop aroma.”
Pop-Up I.P.A. is now available on tap at some area restaurants and bars and will be available in six-packs of 12-ounce bottles in the coming weeks.
In a statement, John McDonald, founder and president of Boulevard, said he has been challenging the company’s brewers to experiment with full-flavored, lower alcohol beers for quite some time.
“It is important to me that Boulevard has balanced offerings that beer fans can enjoy for any occasion,” he said.
The newest Boulevard “session” beer measures in at 4.2 percent ABV (alcohol by volume). Session beers are typically brews under 5 percent ABV and come in a variety of styles. Boulevard also is experimenting with other session beers that could be released soon.
