A 40-year-old man suffered serious head injuries Friday afternoon when his bicycle was struck by a hit-and-run driver at 38th Street and Olive Avenue.
The victim was riding a mountain bike westbound just before 3 p.m. when he was struck by a dark blue car that was northbound. The bicyclist had a stop sign, police said, but either ran the sign or pulled out in front of the car.
The car carried the victim on its hood for about 25 feet, police said, until he fell off. The car’s driver stopped briefly, but then drove away eastbound on 37th Street, said police Sgt. Bill Mahoney.
The car, which was described as a Nissan, possibly an Altima, sustained significant damage to its windshield and hood. The front bumper was hanging down, Mahone said.
The victim, whose last known address was in Illinois, is expected to survive.
