Is ‘white trash’ appropriate or insensitive?

Updated: 2013-07-18T20:30:58Z

An emailer makes a point that stands well on its own:

Considering that your paper has repeatedly asked for more cultural sensitivity about race, I was curious what your reaction is to kansascity.com running front page links to a "white trash" party being held Ernie Biggs.

That doesn't seem like it is very culturally or racially sensitive. It would seem like your paper operates on two sets of rules.

This is a case where I don’t think my own thoughts matter. The emailer obviously objects. Your take?
