Leavenworth man charged in fatal shooting

Updated: 2013-07-18T19:49:58Z

A Leavenworth man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter following a weekend shooting that occurred inside a pickup truck.

Justin M. Driscoll, 26, has been charged in the death of Dick Mathis, also of Leavenworth. Mathis, 30, died after being shot early Saturday morning.

Four men were riding in the extended cab of a truck traveling near 17th and Cherokee streets when the shooting occurred. Driscoll and another man took Mathis to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, according to authorities. Mathis was the father of four children.

Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson declined to elaborate on the specifics of the shooting, adding only that Driscoll remained innocent until proven guilty.
