The Kansas City Star

— Missouri’s football team has some work to do this fall if it wants to earn some respect from the Southeastern Conference’s media.

The league released the media’s preseason all-SEC team Thursday, and only one Tiger — senior cornerback E.J. Gaines, a third-team selection — made the cut. Missouri has the fewest number of selections of any team in the conference, followed by Mississippi State and Kentucky (two each), Arkansas and Texas A&M (three) and Vanderbilt and Mississippi (four).

The media also predicted the Tigers to finish sixth out of seven teams in the SEC East, ahead of only Kentucky. Missouri finished with 577 points, well-ahead of Kentucky (331) but behind Tennessee (694), Vanderbilt (858), Florida (1,300), South Carolina (1,474) and Georgia (1,570).

One last note of interest: since 2000, Arkansas’ Darren McFadden remains the only unanimous selection to the media’s preseason all-SEC team. South Carolina star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who is considered to be a surefire first-round NFL Draft pick, only garnered 223 of 243 votes this season.

Here’s the all-SEC team, in its entirety. The number of votes they received are in parentheses.
