Updated: 2013-07-14T01:55:13Z

Authorities are looking for a man who was last seen in the Kansas River underneath the southbound Interstate 435 bridge at Woodend Road around 7 p.m. Saturday.

He’s believed to be about 30 years old. He reportedly was fishing with a friend and was last seen swimming in the area, according to a police dispatcher with the Kansas City, Kan., police department.

“They lost him,” said Craig Duke, deputy chief with the Kansas City, Kan., fire department. “We’re in the water doing a search now.”

Just before 8:30 p.m., rescue crews launched rescue boats to search for the man. Others started to walk the riverbanks.
