Updated: 2013-07-09T03:20:51Z

Temperatures are expected to hit the mid to upper 90s in the Kansas City area Tuesday afternoon, with heat indexes between 103 and 105 degrees.

Portions of northwestern Missouri and extreme northeastern Kansas could see heat indexes of 108 degrees.

The National Weather Service announced a heat advisory will be in effect from noon to 7 p.m.

The sky will be most sunny, combining high temperatures with a very humid air mass already in place across the region, the weather service said.
