Tigers land small forward from California for 2014

Updated: 2013-07-04T07:01:19Z

Missouri’s men’s basketball team landed its first player from the class of 2014 when Chris Sandifer committed Friday during a visit to Columbia, Mo.

Sandifer posted a picture of himself in a Mizzou T-shirt posing with Tigers coach Frank Haith on Twitter and later tweeted, “Really excited to be a Missouri tiger.”

Depending on the recruiting site, Sandifer, who will be a senior at Junipero Serra in Gardena, Calif., is either a 6-foot-4 shooting guard or a 6-foot-6 small forward.

Rivals, which lists him at 6-6 and 190 pounds, dubbed Sandifer is a four-star recruit and has him ranked No. 88 in the nation.

Sandifer — who is naturally left-handed and also had offers from Colorado, UNLV and San Diego State — was a standout scorer earlier this month at the Pangos All-American Camp in Long Beach, Calif., averaging more than 20 points per game with a good shooting touch and three-point range.

Previously, Sandifer said he wouldn’t make a decision until the AAU season ended, but apparently changed his mind after spending the afternoon with Haith.
