Blue Springs emergency sirens were only a test

Updated: 2013-07-04T02:23:19Z

Emergency sirens sounded in Blue Springs as a storm system moved through Wednesday evening, but the warning was just a test.

The Central Jackson County Emergency Management Agency apologized for concern this may have caused residents.

Officials said the sirens did not perform as expected during a regularly scheduled test earlier Wednesday so repairs were made and a second test was conducted at 6 p.m. That test was only supposed to last a few seconds but officials had to take special steps to deactivate the system.
