As if Lauren Cheney didn't have enough to celebrate this week.

Three days before her wedding day in California, Cheney was voted the National Women's Soccer League player of the month for June after scoring six goals in five games for FC Kansas City. The award is voted on by members of the media.

Despite missing two games for U.S. women's national team duty, Cheney led the NWSL in goals for the month and now has a league-best eight goals this season. She also is second in the league with five assists. Cheney scored two goals while playing three international friendlies with the national team in June.

She will miss the next two FC Kansas City matches — including Wednesday's game in Washington D.C. — as she plans to marry NBA player Jrue Holliday, a point guard for the New Orleans Pelicans.
