Kansas Citians love to blow stuff up. In fact, they love it more than just about anyone else in the country.

Kansas City is the second-largest metropolitan market for fireworks in the U.S., according to new research from the business intelligence website SizeUp. With more than 30 retailers, fireworks in the Kansas City area generated between $625 million and $650 million in total annual revenue, SizeUp estimates.

The study found that San Antonio was the country’s top-performing market, with up to $725 million in annual revenue. Rounding out the top five after Kansas City were Miami, Chicago and Dallas.

Altogether, sales in the five biggest fireworks markets reached $1.35 billion.

The rankings were compiled from an array of private and public information. Readers can find a map with the rankings at SizeUp’s website.
