All four major party candidates for Missouri’s Senate seat in 2012 were still in debt at the end of last year, the Federal Election Commission says.

Sarah Steelman’s campaign was still $875,693 in debt at the end of last year, FEC figures show. That’s top among Missouri candidates, and good for 8th on the overall list of debtors left after the 2011-2012 cycle.

She, businessman John Brunner, and former U.S. Rep. Todd Akin battled for the GOP nomination against Sen. Claire McCaskill.

Akin won, then lost.

Akin owed $239,779 at the end of 2012, good for 23rd on the debt list. Brunner’s debt stood at $250,000.

McCaskill owed $185,768.
